THE CANDIDATE:
The Vice President Economic Development of the Irvine Chamber of Commerce
is responsible for planning and implementing the Chamber's economic development
program that serves as the primary marketing vehicle for the City of Irvine.
Specifically, he/she is responsible for managing all of the Chamber's
activities involving business attraction, retention and expansion, as
well as tourism and international programs.
A suitable
candidate for this high profile position in the community will have experience
in strategic planning and consensus building among community stakeholders
with regard to economic development. He/She will manage a budget of more
than $1 million, most of which is derived from a Hospitality Improvement
District occupancy tax. The Vice President of Economic Development reports
to the President/C.E.O. and supervises two administrative staff.
REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum
of 5 years of past success in an executive level leadership capacity
in an economic or community development non-profit organization.
- Education
requirement - Minimum of bachelor's degree in related field. Economic
Development Certification desirable.
- An outgoing
personality capable of building and maintaining effective personal relationships
with members of city government, senior executives of businesses in
Irvine or considering locating here, developers, the local hospitality
industry and community leaders.
- Sound
understanding of economic development-related legislative and regulatory
issues.
- Professional
experience in public relations, media relations and public speaking.
- Experience
in managing outside public relations and advertising agencies.
- An executive
mind, capable of looking at the "big picture," absorbing information
quickly, thinking broadly, analyzing thoroughly, and acting decisively.
- A history
of unwavering personal and professional integrity.
